Vein Treatment

Leg Vein

Madison, AL Vein Treatment Services:

Fully half the population of the US has vein problems—and for a great many of them, the condition is varicose veins. Symptoms range from annoying to painful and can interrupt your daily life significantly. Varicose veins can also signal other, more serious health problems. No matter if your veins are causing you to avoid wearing the clothing you prefer or are making sitting or standing painful, it’s a good idea to get the problem evaluated by your local Shoals vein specialist at either our Shoals or Shoals Vein Center.

Diagnostic Duplex Ultrasound

A painless evaluation with a sophisticated ultrasound which enables us to determine the status of the vein circulation in your legs. This is much more than a simple ultrasound which many may have received in the past that only checked for blood clots. Our evaluation does this and much more by evaluating the health of the main one way valves in the veins of your leg, which are the cause of many vein problems and leg complaints. This test is often the beginning of our treatment plan.

The VenaSeal procedure uses a medical adhesive that is delivered endovenously to treat varicose veins, which are dilated veins usually found in the legs. The procedure works by closing off the vein, which directs blood flow out of the damaged veins and into nearby healthy veins. The closed-off vein is then absorbed by the body, and it disappears from view over time.

This approach to treatment offers advantages over other vein treatment options. It is less likely to cause thermal nerve injuries than certain heat-based procedures, and it is less painful for patients than procedures that require multiple needle sticks. Research has shown that this procedure is both safe and effective for patients with varicose veins.

Radiofrequency or RF Ablation of diseased veins

Performed in the office under local anesthesia and mild oral sedation if desired, a 45 minute procedure removes the damaged vein and allows immediate return to normal activities. Many of our patients have the procedure and then return to work later that same day ! Other vein practitioners may utilize a laser to perform this technique because the equipment is cheaper to buy but it is also painful and requires heavier sedation. It is not unusual for us to see patients that have had one leg treated elsewhere with the laser and experience so much discomfort that they seek us out to perform RF Ablation on their opposite leg. Even though it is more expensive to perform, we insist utilizing RF ablation to remove veins in the most comfortable and effective manner possible for our patients.

Ultrasound guided Endovenous Chemical Ablation

Some veins are either too short or too tortuous (twisty) to allow treatment with an RF catheter, these we may often treat with injection of an FDA approved chemical into the varicose vein which immediately collapses and seals the vein shut. The body naturally absorbs this vein over the next several months.

Ambulatory Microphlebectomy

Other large varicose veins may be more appropriately treated by in office phlebectomy. ( Phlebectomy simply means Vein Removal ) Under local anesthesia again, tiny nicks in the skin are made and a special instrument is utilized to physically remove the veins. Cosmetic results also are excellent for this technique and the small incisions are so tiny that no sutures are even required. As Board Certified General Surgeons ( also Certified by Venous and Lymphatic Board of Medicine ) who have been treating veins for over 25 years each, we are much more qualified to perform this surgical procedure than other vein practitioners without a surgical background.

For tiny spider veins which are primarily of cosmetic concern, we perform injections of an FDA approved chemical through a very tiny needle into these small blue and purple “roadmap” like veins on the surface of the skin.

This is another Radiofrequency device which removes small veins of the nose and face instantaneously with minimal discomfort, much less than laser techniques which are not nearly as effective.

We look forward to seeing you in one of our offices to evaluate and recommend YOUR customized leg pain and vein treatment plan.
